I don’t take Harper to the Chapperal Dog Park very often. It is a bit of a drive and there are two Dog Parks closer. I usually choose one of those. Chapperal is a nice Dog Park, however, and it is part of a very nice park complex so, on weekends, when the mornings are a little more leisurely, I take her there when I can.
Adjacent to the Dog Park enclosures is the Xeriscape Garden. For much of the year it is a very pleasant area of cacti, desert grasses, agave and mesquite trees. There is a nice sounding water feature (dogs not allowed!), some beautiful stone work and some nice decorative ironwork. Were it not so near the intersection of two major thoroughfares it would be quite tranquil. Nonetheless it is beautiful and we often walk through it on our way to or from the off-leash area.
At this time of year, nearing the end of the monsoon season, it is a riot with color.
The greens are truly green and the flowering desert plants are at their peak.
I always love going to the Dog Park but this makes it all the more pleasant…at least or a few more weeks.
