I don’t know much about these pictures. Only three of the faces are familiar. The two people standing on the left are my maternal grandparents. The women seated in the center (with no shoes) is my grandmother’s sister. I have no idea who the other five people are.
It is obviously a gathering in someone’s home. They are ‘dressed-up’ for the occasion; my grandmother rarely wore jewelry. Based on the apparent ages of my grandparents, I would guess the picture was taken in the late 1940’s.
I’m intrigued by the dynamic between the three women I’ve captioned; especially #1 and #2. What is going on there?
The scenario becomes even more interesting when the photo is juxtaposed with a second photo from the same evening. The ladies have shed their escorts.
Aunt Leda (#3 above) appears to have lost interest but #1 and #2 seem to have continued their silent dialog. And has my grandmother (standing) found something amusing?
What goes in the thought bubbles?
