It was cold at the Dog Park. With all due empathy for our friends in places where cold actually means COLD, when the sun came up on Sunday it was 45*F in Harper’s Valley and Harper’s Keeper was wishing he’d worn gloves.
The greyhounds where wearing their outerwear. For some reason they were also wearing their muzzles this morning. I am not sure why. Retired racers often wear muzzles. Aside from the one that ‘peed’ on my foot a few weeks ago, I have never seen them be aggressive in any way. I don’t know their names so I have christened them Joseph and Hannibal; in honor of their coats and muzzles. Hannibal and Harper were running together for a while but poor Harper is out of her league trying to keep up.
I wrote last week about Wyatt and Doc; two hooligan labs that like to play rough.
For whatever reason, they both wanted to wrestle with Harper this morning.Wyatt, in particular kept running her down and chewing her ears to try to get he to fight back.
When she wouldn’t play he would get in her face and bark. It was all good-natured and no one was getting hurt but Wyatt’s dad and I took turns pulling them apart just to keep the barking to a minimum.
Harper’s BFF du jour was Molly; a 3-yr old Dalmatian.
They were pretty evenly matched in speed and aggressiveness so they are good playmates.
Molly and her family are snowbirds; northerners who come to AZ for the winter; in this case from Minnesota. Hopefully Harper and Molly will have more play dates over the winter.
We left after about an hour. Harper was ready for more but I was cold. Luckily she was able to supervise the drive home so we did not get lost.
