Today is the birthday of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930), the creator of Sherlock Holmes. The 1976 film, The Seven Percent Solution, is not my favorite Sherlock Holmes movie. Indeed, it is probably not a good way to acknowledge Sir Arthur’s birthday since the movie is based on a 1974 Nicholas Meyer novel and not a Conan Doyle story. Nonetheless, Holmes and Watson are the central characters and they are solving a mystery. Most importantly, the movie includes a wonderful song by Stephen Sondheim which activates that show-tune gene locked not-so-deep within me.
Enjoy…but only once.
