The weekend in Santa Fe was terrific. We enjoyed some cooler weather; even got to experience a good, old-fashioned thunderstorm with a real downpour. We reconnected with a friend we met in Santa Fe a few years ago and enjoyed meeting his traveling companion who was visiting from Miami. We had a wonderful dinner at a restaurant we’d never tried before and we took some time out to tour a small local distillery. Oh, yes….we went to the opera too!
Coming home is always pleasant. It is nice to take road trips with Harper’s Other Dad. Sometimes we talk seriously but more often we just giggle…. a lot. Having made the journey a few times now, however, there is no way to describe the drive itself as anything other than boring. It is an 8 hour drive. Hours 2-3 have some terrific New Mexico, high-desert scenery, interrupted too often by yet another casino. The trip down the hill from Flagstaff; Hour 7, has some beautiful views as you descend back into the Valley and return to the Sonoran Desert. Other than that, the road has few curves and few landmarks.
Returning to the Valley means returning to the heat. When we left Santa Fe it was 61*F. When we arrived home it was 107*F. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
Returning to the Valley also means bringing Harper home from the PetsHotel. She seemed happy to see us; maybe just happy to be going home.
As much as I love Sirius radio on long trips, there is always one earworm that burrows in deep and takes a couple of days to shed. I thought I should share my
pain good fortune with you.
