Thanks to Sean; The Jeep Guy, for the idea and the great question set.
1. Pilot or navigator?
Pilot! There is a near-perfect division of labor in Casa de Harper on this. I would always prefer to drive and I am directionally challenged. Harper’s Other Dad is the opposite.
2. Were you ever able to read a map?
Yes. I loved it as a kid on car trips. I do well with maps on longer trips. One city or state to another; no problem. Cross town? No way. Thank God for GPS!
3. Can you sleep or read in a car?
No, but then I am usually driving so that isn’t really a bad thing.
4. Driving in the snow is_________?
…a distant memory. It was a necessary evil when I lived Michigan but it doesn’t come up in Phoenix.
5. Music, talk or audio books?
All of the above with some limitations. I love music in the car but it must have some kind of vocals. Talk is great if it is humor, interview or NPR. AM “Talk Radio” and ‘shock jocks’ makes me crazy. Audio books; yes! Both fiction and non-fiction. Also education courses.
6. Pack a snack or road kill?
Usually the latter. Long car trips are usually synonymous with eating bad food. Changing that is a New Year’s resolution…… every year.
7. Direct or scenic route?
Direct route. It is nice if it’s scenic; much of the Southwest is, but I rarely select the route based on that.
8. Car games?
Nope, not even as a kid
9. Can you fix a flat?
Yep, can and have, more than once.
10. Have you ever been or picked up a hitchhiker?
Both; but not in years.
Only for the purposes for which they were intended.
