Halloween at Casa de Harper was an extended affair this year. I like to decorate the outside of the house at the last minute. I like decorating but don’t like looking at it for a week before or after so I end up decorating outside on Halloween and talking it all down the next morning. It’s still fun.
Harper’s Other Dad and I each carve two jack-o-lanterns every year. He bakes and eat the seeds so it isn’t as wasteful as it otherwise would be.
I hang three dementor-type spirits in the mesquite trees. I actually like the way they look but they are hard to photograph. This is a very red state after all and I don’t want people to get the wrong idea.
One of our neighbors decided to revive the Halloween block party this year. Due to people moving in and out of the neighborhood we had not had one the last two years. It is great fun but it meant postponing Dr. Spo’s Halloween Feast until Saturday evening. It was just the three of us for dinner this year but fun nonetheless.
We started with the traditional Halloween cocktail; Black Vodka martini’s. It was the drink special a dozen years ago at a restaurant in Toronto and we have made them ever since.
The menu included Pumpkin Curry Soup; marinated flank steak and black fettuccine with red, yellow and orange bell peppers. it was served with a nice Vampire Pinot Noir.
Dessert was home-made cinnamon-clove ice cream with pumpkin spice liqueur.
