The Southern Shore of Lake Superior
Summer of 1961
Here I am at age 5 with my father, grandfather and a really big fish. My dad is on my left. My maternal grandfather is on my right wearing the hat. I am relatively certain I’m not the one who caught the fish.
My parents, my sister and I were living in North Chicago at the time. My maternal grandparents came up from Southern Illinois and the six of us drove up to the lower peninsula of Michigan and spent a week on Lake Superior.
This is one of only 2-3 photos of my father and I together. This is the only vacation I remember taking with both my parents together. They would separate the following year.
It is the only time I have ever visited Lake Superior. I still remember how cold the water was; and that comes from a kid who was accustomed to swimming in Lake Michigan.
