Hello & Welcome!
Thanks for your interest, however casual, in learning about me.
My name is Dave (or David). I am a 50-something man living in Phoenix AZ with my partner and our dog; Harper.
By orientation I am gay. You probably picked up on that from “partner” …or from the flamingo & umbrella in the cocktail.
Politically I am a liberal and not embarrassed by that term. I’m sure you’ll pick up on that too.
Religiously I am a Christian. I am not a member of any particular community of faith though I attend Catholic Mass a few times each year. Raised as a Southern Baptist, I learned my Christian values (for better AND worse) within that framework. We didn’t call it ‘fundamentalist’ or ‘evangelical’ in those days but, as they say; “if it walks like a duck…..”. I am pretty accepting of other people’s beliefs as long as they focus on improving people’s lives. I am quickly turned off by religious discussions that seek to explain why God loves “us” but tells us to hate “them”.
I have no faith in astrology, not least because I am either a Scorpio, a Sagittarius or an Ophiuchus depending on your calendar.
I grew up in Illinois & Wisconsin. We moved frequently when was I was young. The closest thing I have to a hometown is Racine WI. My adult life was spent in Michigan before moving the Arizona in 2005.

Age 9
My interests include all aspects of the arts. I enjoy both ‘movies’ and ‘films. I attend the symphony, opera and ballet often. I also like good (and some bad) television. I am a total junkie for live theater. My tastes run more toward the edgy end of the spectrum but I enjoy the classics as well. I listen to ‘popular’ music but it is just as likely to be something from the 1920’s or 1930’s as Gaga. I enjoy reading plays, character-drive fiction and non-fiction & biography.
I have a love/hate relationship with running and the gym but have not given up on either yet
I dislike Scotch, selfishness, lack of common courtesy and any kind of bullying. I have an aversion to mayonnaise that borders on pathological. I can make myself nauseous but by visualizing it.
Favorite Quotations:
“There is no present or future, only the past, happening over and over again, now” – Eugene O’Neill (A Moon for The Misbegotten)
“That’s the mistake I made … to have wanted a story for myself, whereas life alone is enough.” – Samuel Beckett
“People who think that way are wrong to think that way. Sometimes hateful, usually stupid, but always, ALWAYS wrong.” Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.
To learn more about Harper please see the page titled “About Harper”. (Pretty clever; huh?)
Thanks for dropping by and reading. Please leave a comment and say hello.
Thanks for sharing, I linked here from Spo-Reflections and look forward to following your blog.
Thanks for your comment and for saying hi.
I am so glad you have entered the blogsphere! I thought Harper’s Valley CPA a crackup and today I enjoyed your comment on Spo Reflections. Keep ’em coming!
You seem a nice fellow !
My BF thinks so.
First time to track you down and very glad I did. You have a very interesting writing style and I enjoyed all. You go on my favorites bar! And I think the picture from Alaska of you is sensational – and hot!
I was wondering when one of the NH boys would find my little piece of the blogosphere. Thanks for reading/commenting and thanks for the kind words.
Just stumbled in here. Am very much enjoying your family retrospective.
Welcome! Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.
I have a couple more posts inspired by the old photos coming this week. I worry about doing them too often for fear they’re boring to everyone but me.
Love your new icon photo you just put on. You certainly have expressive eyes.
(Blush) thanks
Dave!
I hope you remember me from the blogger gathering last april. Another blogger friend, 23 years old, is moving to Phoenix to start a new job. Could I give him your contact info here so he can start making new friends in Phoenix?
Thanks, and Peace ❤
Jay
