Every year on Halloween we join some of our neighbors for a mini block-party. Usually the first four houses on both sides of our street take part. We get together in one of the driveways. Everyone brings their goodies for the trick-or-treaters, a dish-to-pass and their libation of choice. It is a great opportunity to spend time with the neighbors, see others from nearby as they bring their children around, and meet any people new to the neighborhood. The t-or-t’s love it because they are able to hit 8 houses at one stop. Those of us perpetually watching our calories like it because when you leave you can dump any left over candy into someone else’s bucket. Of course the last to leave tends to lose in this plan. Now that I think of it, I was the last to leave last year…that explains a lot! We usually have 20-25 neighbors and 110-120 trick-or-treaters.
The adults don’t usually wear costumes but when we got a dog I decided it would be festive if she got into the spirit of the holiday.
The challenge is to come up with something snappy for 2012. I have been unable to find patterns for pet costumers her size. In 2010 I bought the largest pattern I could find and used it as template to make something larger. Tailoring is not my strongest suit however…..
